People wearing outer jackets are spotted on a crosswalk in central Seoul on Oct. 6. YONHAPTuesday will bring colder weather across Korea, with a chilly morning commute and another drop in temperatures after sunset.
Morning temperatures fell to around 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) across much of the country’s inland areas.
Cold air from the northwest pushed temperatures down by about 5 degrees Celsius from the previous day in parts of Gangwon where cold wave advisories have been set in effect. Strong winds pushed apparent temperatures even lower.
Daytime highs are forecast to range from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius. Through Thursday, temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly below seasonal averages, which range from 8 to 16 degrees Celsius for morning lows and 21 to 24 degrees Celsius for daytime highs.
The daily temperature swing between day and night will reach around 15 degrees Celsius across much of the country. Health officials advised people to take precautions against the sharp swings.
Fine dust levels are expected to remain “good” nationwide as steady air circulation helps disperse pollutants. “Good” is the best rating on the four-tier air quality scale, followed by moderate, unhealthy and very unhealthy.
Less than 5 millimeters (0.2 inches) of rain is expected on Ulleung Island and Dokdo in the Gyeongsang region. High waves are forecast mainly in waters around Jeju, and vessels are advised to exercise caution.
Waves are expected to reach 0.5 to 2 meters (1.64 to 6.56 feet) in nearshore waters of the East and Yellow Seas and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the South Sea. In offshore waters within about 200 kilometers (124 miles) of the coastline, waves are forecast at 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East Sea and 1 to 2.5 meters in the Yellow and South Seas.
